Manaus, the rubber capital in the 17th century
Manaus is a city situated in the center of the Amazon forest, on the junction of the Rio Negro and Amazon river. Atmosphere.
The history of Manaus is inseparable from the expansion of rubber production. Manaus would certainly be less famous if it hadn’t been for the American Charles Goodyear who, in 1840, developed a process to solidify rubber. Unfortunately the golden age of Manaus finished 70 years later when an Englishman took the hevea tree grains back to England to plant them there, and later in Malaysia.
Nevertheless, Manaus generates a special aura full of mystery from the jungle and the indigenous populations that still roams the rivers.
