Recife, théâtre de l'histoire brésilienne

A historic brazilian town

Founded in the 16th century by the Portuguese, Recife is one of the oldest cities of Brazil.

Its location was chosen because of the reefs that protect its coast. The Dutch captured this colony in 1630 and baptized it “Nieuw Holland”. But in 1654, a coalition formed by the Portuguese, the native Indians, and the Blacks succeeded in expelling the Dutch occupation.

Now a major touristic destination, the city is famous for its beaches and its numerous small canals and islands, given it’s on the delta of 3 major rivers. That’s why Recife is often referred to as the “Brazilian Venice”.
